cops_trailerParadise City has been hit with a string of robberies and its up to you, the gamer, to put an end to it or keep it going. Criterion Games  continues to add more and more to Burnout Paradise with the Cops and Robbers pack. In the pack you’ll get a new online game mode, 33 new cop cars and more trophies and achievements.

The added online game mode is essentially a capture the flag game but with cars. Both teams, the Cops and the Robbers are trying to get to a pile of Gold and return it to their base. The Robbers are trying to get it to the docks, which is “out of the jurisdiction of police” and the Cops are trying to get it back to the country club where the chief of police lives.

This isn’t just an ordinary multiplayer mode. At the start of the match, no one can use boost to get to the gold, but the gold is always shown on the map so you know where to go. Once someone has the gold, that player will get weighed down by it and can’t drive as fast or maneuver that well. This gives you enough time to catch up with the car that has the gold and to take it away from them. How do you take it away? By crashing into them in typical Burnout style. In order to get the gold to your base safely, you’ll have to rely on teamwork, using your teammates to pave a way back to your base by taking out the enemy. On the flip side you can play aggressive and go right after the car with the gold or stake out their base and take it away from them just before they capture it. Takedowns have been tweaked a bit for this mode to make it “fairer and more accurate” in order to keep the action going.

The online mode can support 2-8 players and each side is separated by two colors, the blue team (Cops) and the red team (Robbers) so it’s easy to spot the enemy. The add on content isn’t free to download but seeing as Criterion Games released free content for a year I think its worth the $9.99 price tag. From what I have seen so far, the Cops and Robbers add on has the potential to be the best add on since the Bike Pack. It is available starting today at the Playstation Store and Xbox Live Marketplace. We’ll have a review posted for the DLC soon so come back to check that out.
